WHAT IS NEUROFEEDBACK (NFB)?
NFB is direct training of the brain which helps the brain learn to function more efficiently. We can observe the brain in action during the sessions and show that information back to the person. Just like all learning, is a gradual process. It applies to any aspect of brain function that we can measure. NFB training allows the whole brain system to function better.
WHAT DOES NFB TREAT?
NFB addresses problems related to brain dysregulation. Hence, NFB can be helpful in managing conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, behavior disorders, headaches, migraines, PTSD, addictions and emotional disturbances.
It is also useful for organic brain conditions such as seizures, the autism spectrum, and helps with post-concussion symptoms.
HOW DOES NFB WORK?
First, we do an EEG assessment to determine what is needed. Small electrodes are applied to the scalp to determine brainwave activity. Then, the signal is processed to get information about certain key brainwaves. Based on the assessment, in addition to other relevant information, we determine what is needed. Sometimes we want brainwaves to be higher. Sometimes we want brainwaves to be lower.
The person plays a video game or watches a video on the computer while his/her brain tries to "shape" the brainwaves toward the goals we are trying to achieve. The brainwaves we target and the specific locations on the scalp where we observe on the brain are what makes progress possible and are unique from person to person.
