Dr. Genova is a board-certified psychiatrist who received his doctorate degree in medicine from the University of Miami where he was accepted to an early admissions honors program. He completed his residency in psychiatry at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital where he was additionally the Chief Resident. Throughout his career, Dr. Genova has worked in a variety of settings including community mental health clinics, inpatient psychiatric units, small and large group specialty practices. He has cared for patients in remote areas, hospitals, jails, public clinics and busy urban centers and feels comfortable working with patients from all walks of life. A big part of his experience is in the tech sector. For many years, he led technology innovation efforts for a national top rated medical group and has extensive experience with electronic medical records, health information management systems, data analytics and software development. As CMIO for Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States he spearheaded numerous quality and operational objectives that contributed to top tier NCQA/HEDIS ratings for multiple years in a row. He has completed an executive training program from Harvard Business School Executive Education.

With a focus on patient-centered care, Dr. Genova works with clients to incorporate their unique culture, spiritual beliefs, medical issues and preferences into a personalized and effective treatment plan. Dr. Genova has experience treating adults, older adolescents, LGBTQ+ individuals, and recent immigrants.

Although he focuses on medication management and interventional psychiatry, Dr. Genova also values psychotherapy and utilizes brief therapy in his sessions and coordinates with therapists, primary care providers, and other medical specialists where needed. Dr. Genova offers his clients access to TMS, Spravato, ketamine and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy as well as more traditional therapies. Although he discusses new treatment options with his clients when appropriate, Dr. Genova works to simplify medication treatments with the goal of increasing each patient’s quality of life. He is excited to take part in researching the potential benefits of psychedelic medicines for mental health and utilizing treatments already available such as ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and esketamine.

When he is not in the office he enjoys biking, hiking, and photography. He totally geeks out on iNaturalist and can be seen wandering trails documenting nature as an amateur biologist. While he will always cherish long hikes along the Potomac River, he now enjoys exploring the quiet serenity and majesty of the Arizona desert and nearby mountains.
